Launch: How to empower women-led businesses and make public procurement more inclusive
Open Contracting Partnership and Value for Women launch new report on 21 July, 11am (EST)
Join us for the launch of a new report by Value for Women and the Open Contracting Partnership that presents best practices to create fair and open access to public procurement for women-owned businesses.
As the first wave of the coronavirus lockdown lifts, governments around the world are considering how to reboot their economies. Public procurement is the government’s largest marketplace where one in every three dollars gets spent on a contract with a private company. It is a key opportunity to rebuild a more inclusive economy and increase the participation of women-led businesses.
We’ve talked to entrepreneurs, government officials and academics to understand the barriers women-owned businesses face, their participation in government-established feedback and engagement loops, and whether complaint mechanisms are considered fair. Building on the insights of 14 experts, the new report explores what challenges governments confront when trying to increase procurement from women-owned businesses and how governments can promote gender-responsive procurement.
