Implementing Open and Sustainable Public Procurement

Organisation: Open Contracting Partnership, PUBLIC, Spend Network. Location: Virtual, 10am EST

A webinar on open and sustainable public procurement reforms and toolkit launch

Growing concerns over climate change and sustainability have driven governments across the world to make commitments across net zero, deforestation, methane finance and other areas. However, this hasn’t always translated into concrete actions. With public procurement representing 15% of global GDP, reconsidering governments’ purchasing practices to introduce more sustainable approaches, could be the hidden catalyst for global sustainable development.

To make the trillions of dollars in investment in sustainable development count requires governments to purchase things in a fundamentally different way.

This means introducing sustainable procurement practices. To buy more sustainably, procurement officials will have to start calculating CO2 emissions associated with contracts, think about labor rights across supply chains, or consider how to support inclusive and equal local economic growth.

The new toolkit Open and Sustainable Public Procurement provides practical insights for day-to-day needs at different levels of where governments are. It builds on emerging best practices and expertise from over 30 experts on how to get started, what to keep in mind at each stage, and dedicated worked examples for reducing carbon emissions, costing life-cycles and more.

Join us, thematic experts, and country practitioners for the launch of our new toolkit on 14 June, 10am EST.
